Dilly and Kitty
If you’ve read anything I’ve written, there’s a good chance some part of it was edited or straight-up interrupted by one of my pets.
So let me introduce you to the real stars of my writing life: Dilly and Kitty.
Dilly: Boxer-Bulldog, Secret Cat
Dilly has been with me for almost three years now. He’s a boxer-bulldog mix with the heart of a clown and the energy of a cartoon character. He gets the zoomies out of nowhere, leaps onto furniture like a cat, and pretends to be aloof until I fall asleep—then suddenly, he’s the world’s most affectionate dog.
He absolutely hates walks (and I do mean hates), so instead I bring him to my parents’ house to play with their boxers, Jax and Mila. They run him ragged in the best way, and by the time he gets home, he’s all snores and snuggles.
He and Kitty are best friends in the way only brothers can be. They play fight constantly, then pretend they don’t care about each other five minutes later.
Kitty: Chaos Gremlin Turned Cuddlebug
Kitty is one year old and was born from a stray cat’s surprise litter. He’s mighty, full of energy, and absolutely convinced the world revolves around him. And honestly? He’s probably right.
He loves to climb, sprint across the room at 3 a.m. for no reason, and knock things off shelves just to see what happens. But once he burns through the chaos, he turns into a puddle of affection. He’ll nap on his back like he owns the place, or curl up in my lap when I’m trying to write—usually right on top of the keyboard. And yes, I always stop to give him attention. He wins every time.
If They Were Book Characters
Kitty would 100% be the main character. He has the range, the drama, the "all eyes on me" energy. Dilly would be the lovable comic relief—chaotic, dependable, and accidentally wise. I imagine they would make for quite the interesting story.
Why They Matter
Honestly, I wouldn’t be where I am without these two. They’ve been with me through late-night writing sessions, long days where nothing came out right, and the quiet moments in between. They make me laugh when I need it, remind me to take breaks, and fill my space with comfort in ways I didn’t know I needed.
They’re not just pets. They’re part of my story.
And if you’re sticking around here for more posts, just know—you’re probably going to hear about them again.
